In this year’s CBI³ program, a team of DFM students tackled the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 (sustainable cities and communities) by addressing regional Victoria’s ability to respond to intense bushfires. Using CERN technology, the team designed an automated, eco-friendly bushfire detection system
One of the 2020-21 SUGAR Projects was a collaboration between Design Factory Melbourne, inno.space Mannheim and German company Hansgrohe. Masters students from design, engineering and computer science backgrounds were challenged to develop a product that taps into the emerging self-care market and can improve the health and wellbeing of users. The team created Cirrus, a portable steamer that allows users to practice self-care at home and on the go.
One of the 2020-21 Sugar Projects was a global collaboration between Japan-based company Nakanishi Metal Works Co., Ltd. (NKC) and a team of students from Design Factory Melbourne and the Kyoto Institute of Technology. Addressing the challenge of finding new and exciting solutions which benefit users, the team centred their project on outdoor recreation. Their final design, Mogii, is a portable smoker which offers campers a new taste experience by using the super cold smoking process.
In this Design Factory Melbourne project, WorkFLEX challenged six teams of undergraduate students from Business and Design backgrounds to explore cost-effective options for customer acquirement to reach a wider audience.
